Significant Concepts: Basic video programming and the appeal of virtual environments.

Unit Question: What is the appeal of a virtual environment?

REQUIREMENTS:



  1. INVESTIGATE
    1. Take the Power Game Test on Skyward.
    2. How does the Design Cycle apply to the real world? It can help us solve problems in our everyday life.
    3. Answer the Design Brief questions below:

      • What is the appeal of a virtual environment? It looks cool and sounds real.
        • What are environments? Your surroundings!!
        • What are the requirements of this assignment? Up above..

        PLAN
        Follow the plan I outlined below:
        Day 1: Skyward Test, Design Folder on your wikispace, answer the Investigate and Plan sections.
        Day 2: Finish Skyward Test, Investigate, and Plan sections. Start Power Game.
        Day 3: Complete first level. Don't forget that the width for each level needs to be at least 2600.
        Day 4: Complete second level.
        Day 5: Complete third level.
        Day 6: Complete fourth level.
        Day 7: Complete 5th level and the entire Design Folder, including uploading pictures on your wikispace.

        • Follow the steps of the plan I made you for you!
        • Pay attention to the quality of your work!
        • Don't be a whiny baby that I have to babysit!

        EVALUATE
        4. Did you follow the plan I made for you? No, we did not do the Skyward test first, but we did everything after that.

        6. How could you improve your game? We could have made it easier because we included holes that didn't look like holes.
        7. Share your game with at least one friend. What did he/she like about your game?
      • They liked how it was unpredictable.
        8. Reflect on all the steps of the Design Cycle. What did you do well? What do you need to improve? Answer both questions below!
        • Investigate: We did well by figuring out how to make the level before starting on our game. We could have done better by spending more time using it.
        • Plan: We did well by following the plan, Ms. Bradfield gave us, but we could have made improvements by how fast we were making the game.
        • Create: We did well by meeting all the requirements of the game, we could have done better by adding more explosions and making the levels harder.
        • Evaluate: We did well by looking at the requirements before evaluating our game, we could have made our game better with more animations.

        16. What is the appeal of a virtual environment? Anything can happen in a virtual environment.
        17. What problems did you have using power game? We had problems with trying to figure out how to connect the hotspot to the next level.
        18. What did you like the least about power game? We didn't like that you had to make your characters and that there weren't more options that you could do.
        19. What did you like the best about power game? We liked how you could play your game at any time.

Upload all of your pictures onto your wikispace.

Name all of your pictures, "Power Game 1", Power Game 2", Power Game 3", and "Power Game 4".

Take one picture of each of your levels. You should have at least 5 pictures.

  1. Make at least 5 levels on your video game. Your width for each level should be at least 2600.

You must work on this video game for 7 days. You should add new elements to your game every day!
